VideoCrystal: Ice venture

Last sunday in January the two Arctic explores went for a trip in the ocean ice that covers the waters around the island that the town of Upernavik lies on.

Mostly we have been taking video and photos from the island side of Upernavik, but this is the chance to see the city from the seaside.

Be aware

On the ice you feel totally in the hands of nature, – the wind is harsher, the ice underneath your feet is slowly moving like a wave up and down, the sounds are louder and potentially dangerous animals are closer. – But so are the hunters with their rifles and harpoons, snow mobiles and little boats with big engines.

Journey with us

We didn’t venture far both due to the cold and the ice isn’t something we know much about, and the fact that there is a risk of meeting a slightly hungry polar bear.

It was fun though, and here you can see what the trip was like
